Copper Item from yesterday

I visited a new field yesterday and found far too many buttons for my liking, oddly lots of the finds were quite shallow in the stubble. Maybe that's because the land was so dry.

This turned up and it seems to be made from copper, possibly a strap/belt fitting? Any thoughts on what it is and perhaps it's age? :thumbsup:

That's an odd one Andy, it looks like there was more that's broken off from the lumpy bit, maybe some kind of handle piece has been lost?

It is a bit puzzling. I thought that the lumpy might lock the item in place, when it's connected to another part? Pure guess work though. :Thinking:
