Nokta Legend now any good?

I’m upgrading from my beloved Vanquish 340 as I feel I have enough basic experience and have been lucky to secure a lot of permissions. I need more functionality and was about to buy a NOX 800 but held off to see the new 900 reviews. However I have seen a few comparisons of the Nox against the Legend and the Legend now looks very impressive after the firmware updates. I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences with the Legend as it doesn’t half seem good value.

Not had experience with the Legend but I was talking to a well known magazine tester in the summer and he had just spent a few weeks testing the legend and was well impressed with it. He has no affiliation to any manufacturer so he really made me wonder how good it really is. Interested if anyone has tried both, although I think there’ll be few who have being so similar in price and functionality. If you are near a detecting equipment supplier it might be worth a trip over to get hands on with both machines.

I have not used a Legend but had a Racer before getting my 800.

The Legend was marketed as a Nox beater but i have no idea if they achieved that or not.

My main criticism of Nocta (and I liked my Racer) is that they really over hype their new machines. They did it with the Simplex and again with the Legend. YouTube is full of shills pushing their latest and greatest to the point it’s difficult to make a fair comparison.

The Nox is a known quantity now, both its good and bad points, and if I were in your shoes I would hang on till the Manticore is released and look for a good second hand 800….

I am exactly the same as Pete E "I have not used a Legend but had a Racer before getting my Nox 800.".

From both my own experience (I really liked the Racer) and others I can vouch for Nokta detectors being very well made, reliable, and excellent value for the money.

I know a couple of detectorists that use the Legend and both rate it highly.

Some Y-tube videos also claim it matches the Nox, even it it does not quite do this considering the price difference it certainly gets very close, and represents great value.

So I am sure if you got a Legend you would be happy with it.

Obviously I have no idea what kind of person you are, but one thing to think about is if you got a Legend in a years time might you want to further upgrade to the Nox, or even Manicore?. Part of the reason for this comment is that the Legend would be a significant upgrade from a basic machine, like one of the Garrett ACE series, but I am not sure how much of an upgrade it would be from the Vanquish.

If you were considering the Nox, and are a "two coil man", eg would use a small 6" coil in addition to the standard 11" coil, when I was looking at the Nox 900 a few days ago I did notice that the standard package included both coils where the 800 normally includes only the 11", so if you bought an additional 6" coil the Nox 900 was only £27 (if I remember correctly) more so considering the other changes between the 800 and 900 might well be better value. Caveat here is that I am to some extent assuming the 900 does as it claims!.

I started metal detecting mid 2022 after bumping into a very pleasant lady metal Detectorist in the field next to my house. She was using the Minelab CTX 30, what a weapon. I was enquiring about getting permissions and she very kindly gave me the local farmers number and unbelievably got my first permission. Now I had a C-scope from the 80’s-90’s so decided to upgrade to a 2nd hand Nokta Makro Multi Kruzer. Which was complex for me at the time. But after watching numerous YouTube clips I became not too bad, finding my first button and coin plus loads of horse shoes and gun cartridges. But then I found my first Roman siliqua and five minutes later 2 Bronze Age spear tips although the spears had had a few collisions with the plough over the centuries. I was hooked and after only 7-8 months of detecting sold my Kruzer and went for the legend. God it’s an amazing machine and the signals are loud clear and so far decisive. I went for the pro pack which has the standard stock coil and the smaller sniper style coil. But now setting my sights on the LG30 coil as heard it’s very good. But what I am suprised about is how cheap the legend is compared to Deus and the Minelabs, for personally what I’ve viewed on YouTube the legend does exceptionally well for £300-£400 less. I know I’m a rookie, but can’t rate this detector enough. So glad I found metal detecting. Great hobby.

I’ve heard VERY good things about the Legend. I was chatting to Dan from Treasure Hunting magazine last summer about it as he was testing it at the time and he was very impressed with it. Glad you are loving it. Be good to hear more about others experience of it too

I was using a Garrett Ace 150, which to be fair found many nice things at good depth in pasture, then moved on to a Nokta Legend. I have no experience of anything else and have only detected locally, but it seems to find at good depth- down to at least 10" with coins - and is responsive to very small items too. As my permissions have very little metal I can run with a very low recovery speed which appears to give several extra inches depth. The feature which tells you how much of the object is iron works well too but not at much depth. I do like the way it can be updated, for instance with the iron filter and mode tailored for wet soils, which worked well to reduce noise. Overall I enjoy using it and I'm sure it would find plenty on more historically populated fields.
