Any one have a idea what this would of been had a wooden top could be a handle not sure though

Certainly different and will be interested to know what it is.
Different type of object.
Looks like it was for fixing into something, perhaps in tandem with another one, where you could perhaps attach a wire, as in gardening to support wall trees, roses etc. Horticultural use. Probably wrong but all i can suggest.
