Detecting, if I didn`t laugh I would cry,....
On Saturday, I thought I had found another Crotal bell. I was so excited when I saw the round shape covered in mud. All the lead I had been digging for 4 hours vanished into memory. Another bell - awesome!!!
I slowly dug it out so as not to damage it and then out popped a door knob :o the feeling of elation vanished to be replaced by a sick feeling  , you just never know....

Been there \ done that! :-)

It amazes me just how many door knobs turn up in fields far from any builds or even roads....

Me as well, hinges, coat hooks etc.
The problem in NI is we can only get maps from the 1800`s so I can`t see if there any buildings nearby in the 1500 - 1700`s.
Thanks,
Dave

I’ve dug plenty of knobs in my time :pulling hair out:

Ahh, but you need knobs when you're unlocking doors to the past. :

I was digging a huge field for the first time on a permission on Saturday and in the absence of any decent finds (yet) it's been temporarily named 'the Ikea field', which I think tells you all you need to know :D

most such rubbish come's from the silage pit/dump at the farm then just spread across the field's over time. similar thing with button's in field's some are casual losses but most in my opinion are from the day's of stubble burning which unfortunately i can remember  lol
