While cleaning out my finds bag after yesterday's club dig, I came across this small ring I had found..

I didn't think much of it initially thinking it was just another harness ring, but now I am not so sure.

Firstly, it's surely too fine to be strong enough to be off any use?

Secondly, after cleaning I think I can see a small witness mark where a pin has been resting against the ring ,(3 o'Clock in the pic) ?

So anyone have an opinion as to what's its likely to be?

I make Dorset buttons and use rings I find for the purpose. Some of the sailors from the Franklin expedition were exhumed and, by obvious dint of the extreme cold, much of their clothing etc survived in tact. The had Dorset buttons on their shirts and under garments. They are fairly straightforward to make and easy to attach by sewing through the middle with strong thread.

Well, you learn something new everyday.
Live in Dorset and never heard of them.
Having said that, i have no interest in or sense of fashion.
Just need to relocate a similar object from last years Anton Rally.
Cheers,
Dave.
