Good evening all,

I am currently on holiday in a lovely 17th Stewards House in Northumberland with my family. The owners gave me permission for some of their land and this came up today. I haven’t found anything like it before and am not sure what it is.

The ‘front’ seems to have initials on it, and the ‘back’ appears to have a set of scales on it....??

Found with my Deus Orx around 4” down. What do you all think??

It’s definitely weird Emily. Looks like someone’s tried out a seal in a lump of lead.
I haven’t a clue but hope some else might have some ideas for you.
I like Finds like that, a bit of a mystery to solve and probably unique

Any sign of it having a string through it? It definitely has the whiff of a bag seal to me. Very nice find
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Whatever it is, it's been double-struck. I'm seeing "WM(-) & Co".

I don’t think so. Other than those two lines on the left hand edge there aren’t any punctures of any kind. It looks like it’s been double struck on both sides, so really odd. What sort of date do you think it could be??

Thank you. Yes, it’s been double struck in both sides. Really odd. I wish it was clearer.

Thank you. Yes, I like a mystery too, but I’m not sure there’s enough information to work it out. 😫

I wonder if it’s been re-struck after Sending back for re-use if a seal
OR
It’s quite large so could it be a local token?

Interesting find though

A bag seal but one I have not seen before. I have put it on the Gallery if that's ok Emily. Often people will supply more details at a later date. Could I have the diameter in mm please? - http://www.bagseals.org/gallery/main.ph ... emId=37832

I didn’t realise they were usually smaller. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve tried to do some research, but I don’t know what age it is to narrow it down. 🤦‍♀️

Didn’t someone find a cloth seal last week ? Can’t remember who but someone else asked if he could include the pic in his collection.
All I can remember is I commented ‘ crowns & castles ‘ wonder if he might have any ideas about it.

Sorry to be vague, grey matter & all that !

I found a small lead "something" that could possibly have been a seal of sorts and Stu kindly hosted it on his site...
