My good man, you have me mixed up with someone who knows what he is doing

My amatuer guess would be the end of a very old outside loo pull chain
Honest i have no idea Ian, hopefully someone more intelligent comes along to help

Do remember outside toilets, is the pull a bit heavy duty ?
For some reason am thinking a door knob with a pull loop the other side.
Cheers,
Dave.

Very eloquent.

However the eyelet doesn't seem very worn out to have been attached to a chain and I doubt very much it would have been attached to a piece of string.

The plumbob idea sounds more feasible if it wasn't for the fact that there's no point at the bottom to mark against.
