I found this copper Bell recently in a ridge and furrow field, I say bell as I think it's a bit big for a candle snuffer. It's a shame that the suspension loop is missing, maybe it would have been a bit easier to date if it were intact.

Does anyone have an estimate of age and useage for this item?

It weighs 0.5 oz/14.16 g in it's current condition.

There’s a PAS guide on bells that might help https://finds.org.uk/counties/findsreco ... des/bells/

They were used extensively right up to the 20th century for lots of reasons. No idea about yours though sorry :)
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Thanks Cath, I found that page too but it didn't really make the ID any more straight forward. :D

Thanks also Tone, I suppose it could well be.

How big is it ? If your graph is centre meters it’s very tiny. If it’s inches it could have been a goat bell or as mentioned a dangler bell off horse harness.

Found something similar ages ago, thought it was either a bell or sniffer. Turned out to be part of a furniture leg caster

Maybe one of these. The size is about right.

I think you might be right. This one is fairly flat sided, but I imagine it could well have been something along those lines.
