If, like me, you've never had a whiff of Saxon, here is a useful site where we can see what we're missing.

i frequently browse sites like this. It helps in numerous ways....it can certainly help one to recognise items that may otherwise be assumed to be other less interesting stuff. By correctly ID ing bits and bobs it means you don't miss clues to where to concentrate your search.
I also tend to believe in positive thinking and visualisation. In other words, it doesn't just get your eye in...it gets your mind's eye in.

Like yourself, I've found early Saxon brooch fragments, and you'd think coins might follow.
