I guess you mean a genuine one and a copy? Like anything you can get a faulty one but the carrot is one of the best pinpointers out there in my experience.

I have only ever had one pinpointer which I bought about 11 ( and yes, I detected for many years without one!) years ago - its still working perfectly and is a carrot!

Far too many good fake machines out there that are difficult to spot, until they under perform and fail prematurely.
I bought a cheap one off an auction site for £20, knowing it was fake. Worked OK, (with the penny trick), for about 6 months.

I got the original black carrot which was repaired about 7 years or more ago and still works and a Deteknix which has always worked. Dunno if the Deteknix are still going??

I personally have always used Minelab pinpointers and now use a Pro-Find 40, with a Pro-Find 35 as a back up. I also use a rubber cover over it so it does not get covered in mud, especially around the speaker orifice!

The lower image has the rubber cover fitted, which I can highly recommend, keeps all the muck off and still able to use all the functions and the light. Bought the cover off a chap on eBay.

They were both Garrett Carrots. And both failed after a few weeks. Tried to get one of them fixed, but it failed again.

Didn't bother. I told the supplier who'd supplied them as a prize for the club, but they're a long way off and I'd already decided to buy the proper one for my machine which links to my headphones.

Thanks. Sounds like a plan then. Always used the grab a handful and wave it over the coil method on arable but with pasture coming up that won't do the job. .
