I was out on my small field with Roman to modern stuff as it is about to be re-drilled for cover crop. Landowner is desperate to get the cover crop in for the shooting season but with the weather as it is it is not looking good. I had a nice Constantine II AE from the field Friday but yesterday not much apart from the item below.
It looks fairly old but it could be more modern. Copper alloy, triangle shape in the middle, sing split one end and a double split the other. I think the bend is from being in the ground but could be deliberate. I thought it might have been a nail cleaner but it is too big. It could be a handle off of something but the grooves in it mean that it would have had weak points from the start.
Any ideas?

Very interesting...I initially thought part of a nutcracker, or tongs, but I am really not sure...

No real signs it could be a brooch. I did think nut crackers or sugar cutters with the triangular part but not convinced. The 2 grooves one end go deep so would make a natural weak point.
